Summer 2026 is all about skin that glows from within, color that stays put no matter the temperature, and effortless beauty that looks like you woke up this way — even after a full day at the beach.

After years of doing makeup for weddings, photoshoots, red carpets, and real life in the Bay Area heat, I’ve learned exactly what works and what melts off the moment you step outside. Here’s everything you need to know to look stunning all summer long.

1. Skin Prep Is Everything

The secret to summer makeup that lasts isn’t the foundation — it’s what goes underneath it.

Start with a lightweight, hydrating moisturizer and let it fully absorb before applying anything else. In summer, I love using a gel moisturizer or a hyaluronic acid serum to give skin that plump, dewy look without feeling heavy.

Pro tip: Apply a pore-minimizing, oil-controlling primer after your moisturizer. This is the step most people skip — and it makes the biggest difference for longevity.

2. The “Glazed Skin” Foundation Trend

The biggest skin trend of Summer 2026 is glazed, luminous skin — think less “full coverage matte” and more “your skin, but better.”

Swap heavy foundation for a light-coverage, skin-tint or serum foundation mixed with a drop of facial oil. Apply with your fingers for a natural, blurred finish that photographs beautifully.

Beach-proof hack: Set only the areas that tend to get shiny — your T-zone, nose, and chin — with a finely-milled translucent powder. Leave your cheekbones and the tops of your cheeks dewy. This is my go-to technique for clients on photoshoots and wedding days.

3. Waterproof Everything (And I Mean Everything)

If you’re going to be outdoors this summer, waterproof formulas are non-negotiable. Humidity and heat will break down regular formulas within hours.

My summer kit essentials:

• Waterproof mascara — especially a tubing formula that won’t smudge or flake

• Waterproof eyeliner — gel or liquid, never pencil in summer

• Long-wear cream eyeshadow — doubles as a base to make powder shadows stick all day

• Setting spray — always finish your makeup with a generous mist; it acts like a sealant.

4. Sun-Kissed Color: Bronzer & Blush

Summer 2026 is leaning into warm, sun-drenched color. The goal is that just-came-back-from-vacation glow.

Bronzer: Apply where the sun naturally hits — forehead, nose, cheekbones, and jawline. Use a fluffy brush and blend in circular motions for a seamless, natural warmth.

Blush: This season is all about “blush draping” — sweeping blush high on the cheekbones and up toward the temples for a lifted, sculpted effect. Peach, coral, and terracotta shades are having a major moment.

Highlighter: Keep it subtle in summer. A champagne or gold highlighter pressed lightly on the top of the cheekbones and the inner corners of the eyes is all you need.

5. Lip Color That Actually Stays

Summer lips in 2026 are bold but effortless — think tinted lip oils, glossy nudes, and punchy corals that survive a day at the beach or a dinner out.

My formula for long-lasting lip color:

1. Line lips with a nude or matching lip liner — fill in the entire lip, not just the edges

2. Apply your lip color on top

3. Blot with a tissue

4. Apply a second layer

5. Finish with a clear gloss for that summer shine

The lip liner underneath acts as a stain and keeps your color in place for hours.

6. Eye Makeup That Survives the Heat

Keep your eye look simple but intentional in summer. Heavy eyeshadow tends to crease and fade faster in the heat.

The summer eye formula I use on every client:

• A waterproof cream eyeshadow in a warm bronze or copper all over the lid

• A thin waterproof liner along the upper lash line

• Two coats of waterproof mascara

• A nude or champagne shimmer on the inner corner

This look works for the beach, a wedding, a photoshoot, or date night — and it lasts all day.

7. Setting Spray: Your Secret Weapon

I say this to every single client: do not skip setting spray.

A good setting spray locks everything in place, melts your makeup into your skin so it looks less “done,” and gives you that natural, fresh finish that photographs beautifully. Mist your face from about 8–10 inches away and let it dry naturally — don’t rub it in.

In extreme heat, keep a small bottle in your bag for midday touch-ups.
