For more than 30 years, I’ve had a makeup brush in my hand. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this…

I’ve always believed beauty starts from the inside out, and after more than 30 years in this industry, I believe that more today than ever.

Makeup was never really about the makeup.

I’ve worked with brides just before they walk down the aisle, women preparing for job interviews, CEOs before big presentations, and clients who simply wanted to feel like themselves again after a difficult season of life.

I’ve seen someone look in the mirror and not recognize the woman staring back. Then, a little while later, I’ve watched that same woman smile—not because she suddenly looked like someone else, but because she finally looked like herself again.

Moments like that remind me why I fell in love with this profession in the first place.

People often think makeup artists spend their days talking about lipstick and foundation. Of course we do. But what we’re really doing is listening. Encouraging. Building confidence. Sometimes we’re part makeup artist, part therapist, and part cheerleader.

That’s the real beauty of this work.

Beauty Isn’t Vanity. It’s Self-Care.

I’ve never believed that taking care of yourself is superficial.

Life gets busy. Between work, family, responsibilities, and everything else pulling at us, it’s easy to put ourselves last.

Sometimes your skincare routine is the only quiet moment you have all day.

Sometimes putting on your favorite lipstick is the little boost that helps you walk into a meeting with confidence.

Those moments aren’t about perfection.

They’re about reminding yourself that you matter too.

Confidence Comes From Feeling Like Yourself

People often ask me how makeup can change someone’s confidence.

The truth is, I don’t want my clients to look like someone else.

I want them to look like the healthiest, happiest, most confident version of themselves.

When you feel good, you carry yourself differently.

You stand taller.

You smile more.

You make the phone call you’ve been avoiding.

You stop apologizing for taking up space.

Sometimes confidence starts with something as simple as looking in the mirror and thinking…

“There I am.”

Beauty Starts From the Inside Out

After three decades in this industry, one thing has become crystal clear.

Beautiful skin doesn’t start with foundation.

It starts with how we take care of ourselves.

I always tell my clients to focus on the basics first—healthy skin, plenty of water, enough protein, daily sunscreen (don’t forget your hands!), quality sleep whenever possible, and movement that makes you feel strong.

I’m also a believer in supporting beauty from the inside out. I personally include creatine, collagen, and colostrum as part of my wellness routine because healthy skin reflects a healthy body.

No makeup product can replace taking care of yourself.

A Few Things I Tell Almost Every Client

• Skincare always comes first.

• Find one product that instantly makes you feel like yourself—a lipstick, blush, or mascara—and keep it close on the days you need a little extra confidence.

• Your beauty routine doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes five minutes is all you need.

• Never use makeup to hide who you are. Use it to celebrate who you already are.

My Final Thought

If there’s one thing I hope you take away from this, it’s that beauty has never been about chasing perfection.

It’s about confidence.

It’s about self-respect.

It’s about giving yourself permission to show up in the world exactly as you are—just feeling like the very best version of yourself.

After all these years, that’s still my favorite part of what I do.
