What I Tell Clients About Laser Hair Removal
What I tell my clients about laser hair removal — tips from Christina Flach, celebrity makeup artist San Francisco Bay Area.
As a makeup artist, I spend my days looking at skin up close—prepping it, perfecting it, and making sure it looks beautiful in every light. It’s no surprise that one of the questions I get asked all the time is about laser hair removal.
While I don’t perform laser hair removal myself, I’ve worked alongside trusted professionals for years and have seen the results on countless clients. If you’re thinking about investing in laser hair removal, here are a few things I always recommend.
Choose the Right Provider
One of the most important decisions you’ll make is choosing an experienced, licensed provider. Look for a practice that uses medical-grade laser technology and has experience treating a variety of skin tones. Every person’s skin is different, and your treatment should be customized to your unique needs.
How to Prepare
A little preparation goes a long way. Stay out of the sun and avoid self-tanners for a couple of weeks before your appointment. Shave the treatment area beforehand, but don’t wax or pluck, since the laser targets the hair follicle beneath the skin. I also recommend avoiding retinols and strong exfoliating products for a few days before your treatment to help minimize sensitivity.
After Your Treatment
It’s completely normal for your skin to look a little pink or feel warm immediately afterward. Give your skin time to recover by skipping makeup on the treated area for about 24 hours, and don’t forget your sunscreen. Protecting your skin from the sun is one of the best things you can do after any laser treatment.
Is It Worth It?
For so many of my clients throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, Marin, Napa, and Silicon Valley, laser hair removal has been a wonderful investment. Whether they’re getting ready for a wedding, a photo shoot, a vacation, or simply want an easier daily routine, smoother skin means one less thing to think about.
As with any cosmetic treatment, I always encourage doing your research, asking questions, and choosing a provider you trust. Go in with realistic expectations, because most people need several treatments to achieve their best results—but for many, the convenience and confidence are well worth it.
If you’re getting ready for a special event or simply want to look and feel your best, I’d love to help. Whether it’s a makeup lesson, bridal beauty, a photo shoot, or professional hair and makeup for your next event, I’m here to help you put your best face forward.
