Fake 8 Hours of Sleep: My Celebrity Makeup Artist Secrets

Christina Flach, San Francisco Bay Area celebrity makeup artist, shares her secrets to fake eight hours of sleep for bright, rested eyes

Celebrity makeup artist Christina Flach shares her secrets to look rested even after no sleep.

I’m so excited to share this article, originally published in Women’s Fitness Magazine. Whether you’re squeezing in an early morning workout, chasing after kids, building a business, or simply trying to keep up with a busy schedule (I can relate to all of the above!), under-eye circles can show up long before your energy runs out.

As a celebrity makeup artist, I’ve worked with everyone from athletes and TV personalities to busy moms and executives. I’ve learned that you don’t need eight perfect hours of sleep to look well-rested. With the right skincare, a few makeup artist tricks, and a handful of affordable products, you can brighten tired eyes in just a few minutes.

Here are my favorite tips for looking refreshed—even when life gets a little hectic.

Step1: Chill It Down

Cold therapy is one of the quickest ways to reduce puffiness after a late night, an early workout, or a long day. You don’t need expensive tools—two chilled metal spoons from your refrigerator or a reusable gel eye mask work beautifully. For travel or special events, I love Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber De-Tox Eye Patches. If you’re looking for a more affordable option, COSRX Advanced Snail Hydrogel Eye Patches are incredibly hydrating, help smooth the under-eye area, and cost less than $20 for 60 pairs.

Women’s Fitness Tip: I always keep eye patches in the refrigerator. The cooling effect feels amazing after a workout or first thing in the morning and instantly helps wake up tired eyes.

Step 2: Hydrate the Area

Hydration is essential for healthy skin and flawless makeup. When the under-eye area is moisturized, concealer applies more smoothly and is much less likely to crease. My splurge pick is OLEHENRIKSEN Banana Bright+ Eye Crème, while CeraVe Eye Repair Cream is an excellent budget-friendly option that’s gentle enough for everyday use.

Pro Tip: Gently tap your eye cream in with your ring finger instead of rubbing. The skin around your eyes is delicate, so a light touch makes all the difference.

Step 3: Correct Before You Conceal

Color correction is one of the biggest secrets behind bright, refreshed-looking eyes. Bobbi Brown Under Eye Corrector has been a makeup artist favorite for years, while Pixi Correction Concentrate in Brightening Peach is a fantastic affordable alternative that helps neutralize blue and purple tones before concealer.

Pro Tip: Don’t have a corrector? Mix a tiny dab of peach cream blush into your concealer. It’s one of those backstage tricks that works surprisingly well when you’re in a hurry.

Step 4: Light Coverage,Big Impact

When it comes to concealer, less is definitely more. The goal is to brighten—not cover everything with heavy makeup. I love Dior Backstage Flash Perfector Concealer and Rare Beauty Liquid Touch Concealer, but Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer continues to be one of the best drugstore products on the market.

Pro Tip: Apply concealer only to the inner corner first, then blend outward with a damp sponge. You’ll use less product and create a fresher, more natural finish.

Step 5: Add Light, Not Texture

Instead of piling on powder, add light. YSL Touche Éclat remains one of my all-time favorites for creating a naturally radiant look, while L’Oréal Magic Lumi Highlighter delivers a beautiful glow at a fraction of the price.

Pro Tip: Tap a tiny amount above the cheekbone and at the outer corner of the under-eye area for an instant lifted, well-rested appearance.

Final Tip

Looking your best starts well before you apply makeup. One of my favorite morning wellness rituals is homemade celery juice. It’s naturally hydrating and contains vitamins C, A, and K, which support healthy-looking skin and help promote a fresh, radiant complexion. Whether you’re heading to the gym, the office, or a special event, healthy skin is always the best foundation for beautiful makeup.

My Go-To Celery Juice Recipe

• 1 bunch fresh organic celery, washed and chopped
• Optional: ½ green apple or a squeeze of fresh lemon
• Juice and enjoy immediately on an empty stomach.

Healthy, glowing skin is one of the best confidence boosters—and confidence is always beautiful. I hope these simple tips help you look refreshed, feel energized, and put your best face forward.
