Nighttime Skincare Routine for Glowing Skin

Christina Flach, San Francisco Bay Area celebrity makeup artist, shares her nighttime skincare routine in Women’s Fitness Magazine

When the world finally quiets down, your skin begins its most important work: repair and renewal. A nighttime skincare routine isn’t just self-care—it’s the key to waking up with smoother, brighter, more youthful-looking skin.

As a Celebrity Makeup Artist, I’ve seen firsthand that what you do before bed shows up on your skin the next day. Here are the 5 essential nighttime skincare steps I never skip—and neither should you.

1. Cleanse Thoroughly (Never Sleep in Makeup)

Use a gentle cleanser to remove all makeup, SPF, and pollutants. Double cleansing with an oil-based cleanser followed by a foaming wash ensures a truly clean base for your treatments.

2. Exfoliate (2–3 Times Per Week)

Exfoliation removes dead skin cells that dull your complexion. Use a gentle chemical exfoliant like glycolic or lactic acid to reveal fresher, brighter skin overnight.

3. Apply Treatment Serums

This is when you apply your actives — retinol, vitamin C, or hyaluronic acid. Night is the best time since your skin repairs itself while you sleep.

4. Hydrate and Lock in Moisture

Seal everything in with a rich night cream or facial oil. Look for ingredients like ceramides, peptides, or squalane to deeply nourish skin overnight.

5. Don’t Forget Neck & Eye Area

These areas show aging first. Use a dedicated eye cream and extend all your products down to your décolletage.
