Pretty Girl Makeup CEO, NBC California Live beauty expert, and I’m Too Busy Podcast host Christina Flach has just been featured in Women Fitness Magazine with her most comprehensive eye makeup guide yet — and it covers everything from application and removal to under-eye care.
After decades of helping women look refreshed, confident, and camera-ready on set, Christina is sharing her most powerful secrets in one place. This is the guide she wishes every woman had.
Prep and Prime
Hydrated skin is the foundation of beautiful eye makeup. Always apply a lightweight eye cream before concealer or shadow, and use an eye primer to prevent creasing and help colors last longer. No primer? A thin layer of concealer on the lid brightens and creates the perfect base.
Choose Hydrating Concealer — Skip the Powder
One of the biggest mistakes Christina sees is using a matte, drying concealer under the eyes and setting it with powder. Choose a creamy, hydrating concealer instead — it reflects light, camouflages dark circles, and makes you look instantly more rested.
Neutral Tones Are Your Best Friend
The goal of eye makeup isn’t for people to notice your shadow — it’s for them to notice your eyes. Start with a light, creamy neutral across the lid, then build with soft taupes, warm browns, and subtle bronzes.
Keep Your Brushes Clean
Dedicate one brush to your light lid color and wash all brushes at least once a week with gentle shampoo. Clean brushes blend better, last longer, and protect your skin.
Fill In Your Brows
Brows frame the eyes and create structure. Use a brow pencil or shadow to fill in sparse areas with light, hair-like strokes. Well-groomed brows lift the entire face and make your whole makeup look more polished.
Curl Your Lashes — But Not Every Day
A lash curler opens the eye and creates lift — but frequent use can weaken lashes over time. Reserve it for special occasions and always curl before mascara.
Keep Eyeliner Thin
A thick, heavy liner closes off the eye. Keep the line close to the lash line and light in the center of the lid to create bigger, brighter-looking eyes.
Apply Mascara Strategically
Wiggle the wand at the roots and concentrate extra mascara on the outer corner lashes for a lifting effect. Replace mascara every three months. Consider brown mascara for fair or light-eyed women — it’s softer and incredibly flattering.
Brighten the Inner Corners
This is Christina’s single best eye makeup tip — add a light, creamy or shimmer shade to the inner corners to instantly wake up the face and create the appearance of bigger, more open eyes.
Always Remove Makeup Before Bed
Use coconut oil or apricot oil to dissolve eye makeup, followed by a gentle cleanser. Your skin repairs itself while you sleep — start with a clean canvas.
Remember, the goal isn’t for people to notice your makeup — it’s for them to notice YOU.
