Halloween Makeup: Easy Glitter Lashes & Lips
Celebrity makeup artist Christina Flach shares budget-friendly Halloween glitter lash and lip looks on NBC California Live
Halloween is one of my favorite times of year because it’s the perfect excuse to step outside your comfort zone and have fun with makeup. Whether you’re heading to a Halloween party, taking the kids trick-or-treating, or simply want to create a festive look for social media, you don’t have to spend a fortune to make a statement.
As a celebrity makeup artist, I always remind my clients that Halloween makeup should be creative, affordable, and easy to recreate at home. You don’t need a professional makeup kit to achieve a glamorous Halloween look—just a few inexpensive beauty products and a little imagination.
This segment originally aired on NBC California Live, and you can watch the full video on my YouTube channel for a step-by-step demonstration of these looks.
On my NBC California Live beauty segment, I shared two of my favorite Halloween makeup hacks that instantly transform any costume: glitter lashes and glitter lips. These simple techniques add sparkle, drama, and personality to almost any Halloween costume, from a glamorous fairy or disco queen to a spooky vampire, witch, or pop star.
DIY Glitter Lashes
Adding glitter to false eyelashes is one of the quickest ways to elevate your Halloween makeup. They catch the light beautifully and make your eyes the center of attention.
What You’ll Need
● False eyelashes
● Lash adhesive
● Fine cosmetic glitter in your favorite color
● Toothpick or small applicator
How to Apply Glitter Lashes
1. Apply a small amount of lash glue to the tip of a toothpick.
2. Carefully place a thin line of glue along the base or outer edge of the false lashes.
3. Sprinkle or gently press cosmetic glitter onto the glue.
4. Allow the lashes to dry completely before applying them.
5. Apply your glitter lashes as you normally would using lash adhesive.
Pro Tip: Gold, silver, black, purple, emerald green, and holographic glitter all create beautiful Halloween eye looks. Just be sure to use cosmetic-grade glitter that’s safe for the eye area.
DIY Glitter Lips
Nothing says Halloween glam quite like sparkling lips. Glitter lips photograph beautifully and instantly elevate even the simplest costume.
What You’ll Need
● Lip scrub
● Lip liner
● Lipstick
● Sticky lip gloss
● Cosmetic glitter
● Scotch tape
Prep Your Lips
Healthy lips help glitter stay in place. One of my favorite DIY lip scrubs is simple:
● 1 tablespoon coconut oil
● Brown sugar
Gently massage the scrub onto your lips, then wipe away with a warm cloth. Your lips will be smooth, hydrated, and ready for color.
How to Create Glitter Lips
1. Apply Scotch tape around the outer edge of your lips to help create crisp, clean lines.
2. Outline your lips with a bold lip liner. Classic red is always beautiful, but don’t be afraid to experiment with black, berry, purple, or even metallic shades.
3. Fill in your lips with lipstick.
4. Apply a generous layer of sticky lip gloss. The stickier the gloss, the better your glitter will adhere.
5. Pour cosmetic glitter onto a clean plate.
6. Lean over a sink and gently press your lips into the glitter until they’re fully covered.
7. Carefully remove the tape for perfectly defined glitter lips.
Christina’s Pro Tips
● Always use cosmetic-grade glitter designed for the face and lips.
● Avoid craft glitter around the eyes or mouth.
● Keep the rest of your makeup soft if you’re going bold with glitter lips and lashes.
● Finish your look with setting spray to help everything last through your Halloween celebrations.
How to Remove Glitter Makeup
At the end of the night, don’t scrub your skin. Instead, gently massage coconut oil or an oil-based makeup remover over the glitter to break everything down. Follow with your favorite facial cleanser and warm water. Your skin will thank you!
Halloween is all about expressing yourself and having fun. Whether you’re creating a dramatic costume makeup look or simply adding a little sparkle to your everyday makeup, these easy techniques can transform your entire look in just a few minutes—and without breaking your budget.
Most importantly, don’t be afraid to get creative. Makeup is art, and Halloween is the perfect time to let your imagination shine.
Have a safe, fun, and sparkle-filled Halloween!
